The Brent Hinds Mastodrive
In an Instagram post in April 2021 Brent Hinds announced that the Mastodrive would be the first effects pedal released under his Dirty B Hinds brand.
Tagged as the first-ever Brent Hinds overdrive* and as being played on the new Mastodon record, the run of Mastodrive’s was limited to 250.
Probably not a surprise – given the visual design – that the Mastodrive is Klon ‘inspired’. For the pedal geeks like me a Reddit user posted a ‘gut shot’ of the Mastodrive.
What I found interesting was the vacant space for where a potentiometer could go to control the bass frequencies. Also interesting to see that there are four diode spots that have not been populated, D1, D2, D7 and D8.
As with any limited edition pedals these days the 250 Mastodrives were snapped up very quickly and sadly already popping up on Reverb from scalpers for hugely inflated prices.
* I actually thought the Mastortion was his first overdrive. You can occasionally find a Mastortion out there in the wilds of ebay if you look hard enough.
