The Sasquatch Octave Fuzz : Effects Layouts build
Recently I put together the Sasquatch and octave fuzz from an Effects Layout PCB. The Sasquatch is essentially a Big Muff circuit with a James‐Baxandall tone stack for individual treble and bass controls as well as a Dan Armstrong Green Ringer.
The Big Muff is one of the more commonly cloned DIY style circuits and I’ve put together a handful of different Big Muff variants each with it’s own quirks and characteristics.
It was a fairly easy build overall with the majority of parts easy to come by. I used plenty of sockets so I could play around with different kinds of transistors. I haven’t actually settled on a final set yet so socketing was definitely the way to go.
For this build I decided to try the Tayda UV printing service again. The first time around I was pretty happy with the result. This time around I tried a couple of different things but didn’t select the gloss coat which, in hindsight, was a bit of a mistake. When I drilled the holes I found the paint looked like it might chip easily so I decided to spray on a coat of clear gloss enamel that I had on hand. The clear coat had a weird kind of reaction with the paint that caused a weird crackling type effect.
While it didn’t dry flat it has appeared to dry hard and I actually think it looks pretty good in a weird way. Once I settle on some transistors I might pull together a quick demo video for YouTube.
