Astral Destiny from EarthQuaker Devices

This month EarthQuaker Devices release a new pedal – the Astral Destiny. Billed as an ‘Octal Octave Reverberation Odyssey’, the Astral Destiny is a modulated octave reverb pedal that features 8 reverb modes with 8 editable presets.

It can be set to either tails or no tails mode. With tails the reverb will decay naturally when the effect is bypassed. If you opt for no tails the reverb will just stop dead once you bypass it. Factory default is tails.

It also includes a foot switchable ‘stretch’ feature that doubles the length of the reverb while at the same time adds a temporary change in pitch.

It also has an assignable expression control input to give you even more options and control.

The 8 reverb modes are:

  1. Abyss: Huge reverb with no octave effect
  2. Shimmer: Adds an upper octave to the reverb tail
  3. Sub: Adds a lower octave to the reverb tail
  4. Sub Shimmer: Adds an upper and lower octave to the reverb tail
  5. Astral: Adds an upper and lower octave combined with a regenerating tail
  6. Ascend: Upward pitch bending
  7. Descend: Downward pitch bending
  8. Cosmos: Adds a regenerating fifth to the reverb tail

There’s a fantastic demo of the pedal on YouTube from The Pedal Zone – one of my go-to pedal demo channels.

Earthquaker Devices have probably become my favourite pedal company, they make a tonne of really cool stuff and they are pretty much responsible for me being broke right now! I’m definitely looking to add the Astral Destiny to my EarthQuaker collection very soon.

You can find the EarthQuaker Devices Astral Destiny on Reverb or eBay.
